President’s Welcoming Note
As the newly elected President of the International Arthurian Society I would like to thank you warmly for your confidence and the great honor that you have given to me. Since 1991, I have been a member of the International Arthurian Society. I delivered my very first conference paper at the Colloquium of the German Branch in Berlin in 1992, a few months before I handed in my Masters thesis. As far as I know, in those days there was no other scholarly society in Germany which was equally open to young scholars.
Soon thereafter I was admitted to the bibliographical team of the German branch, replacing Xenja von Ertzdorff-Kupffer, which was a great honor for me. Although I worked for Bart Besamusca’s ‘Arthurian Fiction’ project in 2004-06 and was allowed to be a part of the 'home team' during the Utrecht Arthurian Congress in 2005, I still would not have imagined that in 2007 Friedrich Wolfzettel would recommend me as the next President of the German/Austrian Branch after him, nor that Keith Busby would now recommend me as the International President. I owe very much to the International Arthurian Society, and I hope that I will somehow manage to pay back part of all the favor and the honor that I experienced. Certainly, I know that it is hardly possible to come close to the merits of my highly esteemed predecessor Keith Busby, whose achievements for the Society were enormous. He deserves our very special thanks.
